New Films This Week: Eight New Releases and Clips to Watch
A fresh batch of film clips and trailers has landed on UK Film Network, ranging from futuristic science fiction and hard-edged action to romantic drama, documentary and one of the most eagerly awaited live-action/animation crossovers of the year.
This week’s selection includes new work from Ridley Scott, Jason Statham, Ryan Reynolds, Kenneth Branagh, Eva Longoria and Noomi Rapace, alongside the long-awaited arrival of Coyote vs. Acme. Here’s what’s coming up and what you can watch now.
Hot Spot
Release: 21 August 2026
Agnieszka Smoczyńska’s Hot Spot takes us into a near-future society governed by sentient artificial intelligence, where a private investigator looking into a murder begins to uncover something far bigger than a single crime.
The investigation leads to a rebel group with the potential to undermine the digital power controlling society, but as the detective digs deeper, their own identity begins to fracture and the world around them slips into an increasingly hypnotic state of uncertainty.
The film stars Noomi Rapace, Andrzej Konopka and Reika Kirishima, with a screenplay by Robert Bolesto and music from Marcin Macuk and Zuzanna Wrońska.
Viewer discretion is advised for the clip, which contains graphic violence and disturbing imagery.
Mutiny
Release: 21 August 2026
Jason Statham returns to familiar high-stakes territory in Mutiny, playing Cole Reed, a man forced onto the run after witnessing the murder of his billionaire boss and then finding himself framed for the crime.
Reed boards a cargo ship determined to avenge his employer’s death, but what begins as a personal mission soon exposes an international conspiracy with much wider implications.
Directed by Jean-François Richet, Mutiny also stars Annabelle Wallis, Roland Møller and Adrian Lester. The film is written by Lindsay Michel and J.P. Davis and produced by Marc Butan and Jason Statham.
The Dynasty: UConn Huskies
Release: 21 August 2026 on Apple TV
For a very different kind of intensity, The Dynasty: UConn Huskies looks inside one of the most successful programmes in college basketball history.
The three-part documentary series charts UConn’s rise through generations of players, coaches and championship teams, combining previously unseen archive footage with intimate access and interviews, including members of the 2025 National Championship team.
Rather than simply celebrating the trophies, the series examines the pressure, sacrifice, expectation and uncompromising culture behind sustained sporting dominance.
Directed by Matthew Hamachek and Erica Sashin, the series brings together voices from across the history of UConn basketball to explore what it takes to build, and maintain, a dynasty.
The Last Sunrise
Release: 26 August 2026
Set against the backdrop of Mallorca, The Last Sunrise follows Ry, a college student living with a chronic illness who travels to the island with her mother for a summer escape.
There she meets Julián, and an unexpected romance encourages her to begin living more fully in the present. But as her condition worsens and long-hidden family secrets begin to surface, the summer takes on a very different meaning.
Maia Reficco stars as Ry alongside Fernando Lindez and Eva Longoria. The film is directed by Carlson Young, written by Anna Klassen and based on the novel by Anna Todd.
The Dog Stars
Release: 28 August 2026
Ridley Scott returns to large-scale survival drama with The Dog Stars, an adaptation of Peter Heller’s post-apocalyptic novel.
After a devastating pandemic, pilot Hig lives in isolation with the heavily armed survivalist Bangley. Their fragile existence changes when Hig picks up a mysterious radio transmission, prompting him to venture beyond the security of their compound and into a world whose remaining dangers are far from understood.
The film stars Jacob Elordi, Josh Brolin, Margaret Qualley, Guy Pearce, Benedict Wong and Allison Janney, with Scott directing from a screenplay by Mark L. Smith.
With its mix of survival thriller, human drama and expansive post-apocalyptic imagery, The Dog Stars is one of the more intriguing late-summer releases.
Coyote vs. Acme
Release: 28 August 2026
After decades of enduring explosions, falling rocks, malfunctioning rockets, fake tunnels and virtually every other disastrous product in the ACME catalogue, Wile E. Coyote has finally had enough.
In Coyote vs. Acme, the permanently unlucky desert predator decides to take the corporation responsible for his many injuries to court. He teams up with accident lawyer Kevin Avery, played by Will Forte, while ACME is represented by slick corporate counsel Buddy Crane, played by John Cena.
The live-action and animated comedy also stars Lana Condor and Tone Bell and is directed by Dave Green. The screenplay is by Samy Burch, from a story by James Gunn, Jeremy Slater and Burch.
It is a wonderfully absurd premise that turns decades of Looney Tunes destruction into the basis for a corporate legal battle.
Finding Emily
Release: 28 August 2026
Finding Emily takes a lighter route with a campus-set romantic comedy built around a simple mistake that quickly spirals out of control.
When a lovesick musician is accidentally given the wrong number for the girl he believes could be the love of his life, he joins forces with an ambitious psychology student to track her down. Their search triggers a campus-wide frenzy, but inevitably the journey begins to reveal as much about the pair themselves as the person they are trying to find.
Angourie Rice stars in the film, which is directed by Alicia MacDonald and produced by Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner and Olivier Kaempfer.
Mayday
Release: 4 September 2026
Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh make an unlikely Cold War pairing in Mayday, an action comedy that plays with the conventions of the traditional spy thriller.
Reynolds plays Lieutenant Troy “Assassin” Kelly, a hot-shot U.S. Navy pilot sent on a secret mission into Russian territory. When the operation collapses, Kelly is stranded behind enemy lines and appears to have very few options.
Then he encounters Nikolai Ustinov, played by Kenneth Branagh, a gruff former KGB agent with an unexpected fascination with American culture. What follows is an unlikely alliance between two men who, under normal circumstances, should be on opposite sides.
The film also stars Marcin Dorocinski, Maria Bakalova and David Morse and is written and directed by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein.
