New Trailers: Sacha Baron Cohen Brings Back Ali G as Elsinore and Love of Your Life Offer Something Very Different

The latest batch of new film trailers brings together three releases that could hardly be more different. Sacha Baron Cohen is resurrecting one of his most famous creations in Ali G: Who Iz I?, Simon Stone turns to the remarkable story of actor Ian Charleson in Elsinore, while Margaret Qualley and Gabriel Basso lead the romantic drama Love of Your Life.
All three films are heading to cinemas over the coming weeks, with new trailers offering a closer look at what audiences can expect.
Ali G is back in Ali G: Who Iz I?
More than two decades after Ali G became a cultural phenomenon, Sacha Baron Cohen is bringing the character back to the big screen in Ali G: Who Iz I?, and life has apparently moved on considerably since we last encountered the self-appointed voice of Staines.
Well, sort of.
After twenty years spent “chillin’, tokin’ and bonin’”, Ali receives the rather significant news that his long-term girlfriend Julie is eight months pregnant. The impending arrival means responsibilities, another mouth to feed and, most alarmingly for Ali, the prospect that he might finally have to grow up.
His solution is characteristically ambitious: head to America and attempt to reclaim his former glory. Inevitably, the plan does not unfold quite as expected. His American adventure brings him into contact with a collection of adversaries who eventually threaten not only Ali himself but the future of his unborn child.
Sacha Baron Cohen once again plays Ali G, with Morgana Robinson also starring. The film represents another significant milestone for Cohen, who makes his feature directorial debut with the project.
Ali G first emerged on British television in the late 1990s before becoming the central character in Da Ali G Show and making the leap to cinema with Ali G Indahouse in 2002. Cohen subsequently achieved international success through characters including Borat and Brüno, while also establishing himself as a dramatic performer in films and television including The Trial of the Chicago 7 and The Spy.
Bringing Ali G back more than twenty years later presents an interesting challenge. The character was created in a very different media and cultural landscape, and much of the appeal of the new film may come from seeing how Ali responds to a world that has changed enormously while he, presumably, has not.
Ali G: Who Iz I? is released in cinemas on 23 October 2026 by Amazon MGM Studios.
Elsinore tells the remarkable story of Ian Charleson
There is a dramatic change of tone with Elsinore, the new film from director Simon Stone.
The film tells the deeply moving true story of Scottish actor Ian Charleson and focuses on a period in which an extraordinary professional challenge unfolded alongside the greatest personal challenge of his life.
Charleson was one of the most acclaimed British actors of his generation. To cinema audiences he remains particularly associated with his performance as Eric Liddell in the Oscar-winning Chariots of Fire, but his career also encompassed an extensive body of theatre work.
In 1989, while seriously ill, Charleson took on the role of Hamlet at the National Theatre. He was living with AIDS and would die in January 1990 at the age of just 40.
His performance became legendary.
Elsinore approaches Charleson’s story through the courage, wit and honesty with which he faced his mortality while continuing to pursue his craft. Rather than simply presenting a story about illness, the film explores an artist confronting extraordinary circumstances and creating something that profoundly affected the people around him.
It is fertile territory for a filmmaker such as Simon Stone, whose work frequently moves between theatre and cinema. Charleson’s final Hamlet has endured as one of the great stories of modern British theatre, making Elsinore potentially as fascinating to theatre audiences as it is to filmgoers.
At its heart is a question that extends beyond the stage: what does an artist choose to do when time suddenly becomes desperately limited?
Elsinore is released in cinemas on 20 November 2026 by Focus Features.
Margaret Qualley leads Love of Your Life
Between the outrageous comedy of Ali G: Who Iz I? and the true story behind Elsinore comes Love of Your Life, a romantic drama directed by Rachel Morrison and starring Margaret Qualley.
Qualley plays Maya, whose chance encounter with Charlie, played by Gabriel Basso, develops into a sweeping romance and the prospect of a future beyond anything she had previously imagined.
Then that future is suddenly upended.
Maya finds herself propelled into a life she never anticipated, forcing her to reconsider her identity, what she wants from the future and, ultimately, whether it is possible to open herself to love again.
The film brings together an impressive ensemble cast. Alongside Qualley and Basso are Aaron Pierre, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Catherine Keener, Tamara Lawrance and Corey Johnson.
Behind the camera is Rachel Morrison, the cinematographer who became the first woman nominated for the Academy Award for Best Cinematography for her work on Dee Rees’ Mudbound. Morrison subsequently moved into directing, including episodes of major television productions and her feature directorial debut The Fire Inside.
There is some equally notable talent behind the scenes, with Ryan Gosling and Jessie Henderson producing the film.
The two trailers suggest a film interested not simply in finding love but in what happens when the future someone has constructed for themselves is unexpectedly taken away. Maya’s romance provides the catalyst, but the larger journey appears to be about rebuilding a life when its assumed direction disappears.
With Qualley continuing to take on an increasingly diverse collection of roles, Love of Your Life gives her another substantial character around which to build a film.
Love of Your Life is released in cinemas on 14 October 2026 by Amazon MGM Studios.
Three very different films heading to cinemas
Taken together, these three releases offer an unusually broad snapshot of the films arriving in cinemas this autumn.
Ali G: Who Iz I? asks whether a comedy character born in the late 1990s can return more than a quarter of a century later and still cause havoc. Elsinore revisits an extraordinary chapter in British theatrical history through the life and final performances of Ian Charleson. Love of Your Life, meanwhile, places Margaret Qualley at the centre of a contemporary story about romance, loss and rebuilding a future.
Love of Your Life arrives first on 14 October, followed by Ali G: Who Iz I? on 23 October, with Elsinore completing the trio on 20 November 2026.
